Heading down from our hotel in Delhouse, Sri Lanka, a group of toque macaques descended upon us. They came running and jumping out of the hills and sliding down telephone wires with clear intent, food!
With trepidation one of the bolder monkeys moved closer and closer. With his arm extended and his eyes screwed up in the act of sheer defiance, he extended a little monkey finger and touched my camera. When I held down the shutter button, the lens moved and he jumped back in alarm. (Photo of monkey touching my camera courtesy of travel partner Leyland Cecco www.leylandcecco.com )
Following the little monkey’s curiosity, a van load of curious locals, of the human variety, arrived. They rolled down their windows and dangled crackers out the window. A few of the braver monkeys rushed over to snatch a snack.
