The sun was just starting to dip below the Sinai mountains as I broke the surface of the Red Sea. Ascending 100 feet from deep inside an underwater canyon, I was ready for a bite to eat. We packed up our gear, loaded it into the bed of an old Toyota truck and headed to the only restaurant.
After a quick scan of the menu, I settled on a good old cheeseburger. I sat back, looked out over the shimmering water and contemplated how much better it is down where it’s wetter. It didn’t take long to affirm this position.
When my cheeseburger arrived, there were three small patties of beef with a slice of tomato on each, no bun and certainly no cheese. Life just makes more sense under the sea.
